I have spent the last day and a half reading through K’AM’s latest “Lawyered”. I must say how impressed I am by the author’s development of her characters. How skillfully she meticulously puts together the pieces of Life’s puzzle into a coherent work of fiction.

The dialogues are believable which is a big thing for me, that writer’s write adult conversations as if real adults were involved. As a male who enjoys Lesbian erotica, the sex scenes in this story leave me as horny as a Narwhale!

Another plot development that I think is important, though at first I thought it was an author’s error. Was the failure of the involved women characters to notice that they are being spied upon and followed. At first, I thought plot fail but upon reconsideration, I see was realistic.

Let’s face facts, most women do not have the experience of hunting men or being hunted by men. To the extant that it is a common male experience. When the hairs on the back of your neck prickle, start pumping that adrenalin. “Cause the Code of the West is as follows. Do unto others and do it before they do it unto you!”

So the only point left in the story that I disagree with is the poor advice, the lack of good advice from Simone and her Security Team. Better late then never is miserable comfort to a corpse in the morgue.

When women ask me for advice on learning self-defense. I tell them the very first thing they need to learn is E&E. Evade and Escape is the most useful discipline when 120- lb woman is in danger from a 200+lb of gorilla.

I enjoyed all the ‘usual suspects’ from Meinel’s other books she brought into this story. And how well they integrated into this plot. With some big surprises and sudden shocks that enthralled me. Terrific humor and stomach-twisting pathos. I suspect that K’Anne intends to spin off an Alice & Sasha storyline based on the events in this book?

Finally (Whew! Would he ever shut up?) it was very much amusing to see the ‘Chekhov’s Gun’ that Meinel wove into the plot. The part about the construction of the parking structure….very mischievous, you scalawag you!

Thanks for the read – Robert

5.0 out of 5 stars Such and engaging and fantabulous story about lawyers in general and one youthful, brilliant woman lawyer in particular!, August 3, 2014

Lawyers…love them, hate them, need them, or despise them. Well, I find attorneys fascinating and along with police and doctors, they seem to be able grab my attention and captivate me. However, in this book, we have a truly outstanding example of a top-notch powerhouse rainmaker. Right out of Harvard she is offered a position with a noted legal firm. Stunningly, she is the youngest woman to become a partner in this Wall Street business of note. Then there are a delightful number of story threads paralleling, intertwining, and building upon each other to add mystery, spice, and tension in addition to the brilliant courtroom scenes where our youthful litigator crushes the competition. Unless stories involving lawyers are particularly off-putting, this is a winner. Superb!

Nadia Toyomoto, often call Nia, inherited most of her physical traits from her German-American mother, so she does not look Asian like her Japanese father which often surprises the people she meets. She flew through her academic years. She is offered a partnership when she is only thirty, however, it comes with some peculiar requirements and extraordinary perks. She is more than a bit incensed about what they demand yet dazzled at some of what they are offering. She finally chooses to accept their terms and proceeds to once again to wow everyone. Her professional life is phenomenally intriguing. Her personal life is uncommonly graphic and engrossing. For example and smack in the middle of things, Nia goes on an in-depth personal exploration of her sexuality. She does eventually link up with a frustrated but cautious married woman whose first name is Justine and I just loved that! Whatever Nia was involved in I found just riveting. What a blast it would be to meet and/or work with such a dynamic individual. Fantastic!

Colleen Hodsworth is a bit of a legend at Chase-Dunham in that she has served as Nia Toyomoto’s legal assistant for years. No one has ever lasted that long. She handles everything admirably and Nia perfectly. Curious that she did not expect to accompany Nia to her new corner office now that she is a partner, but Nia told her she definitely wants Colleen to accompany her. Moreover an astonishing story thread that links Colleen and Nia takes both of them to some amazing levels. The relationship completely transforms both Colleen and Nia. Oh the sparks do fly. Fantabulous!

I did not anticipate all the engaging things that happen in conjunction with either Chase-Dunham or Nia/Colleen, including murder, mayhem, numerous fascinating legal matters, undercover operations, all manner of sexual situations, prejudice, and positively gratifying friendship connections. This is a cornucopia of situations and people that simply astounded me. I give this book kudos and a standing ovation.

Dazzlingly satisfying!

I really enjoyed this book. It did have some continuity issues, but they were fairly easy to overlook as a whole. My only real disappointment came from the abrupt ending. I can only hope that means that there will be a sequel.

I couldn’t wait for this book to be released and I must say I was NOT disappointed. I always enjoy how this author delves into the psyche of her characters and what a nice little treat to have some of her characters from other books make an appearance in this one. I thought this was a great read, wonderful love story, engaging characters, humorous situations and pandemonium.
