So you write lesbian fiction…

When I tell strangers I write lesbian fiction, they equate this with erotica or porn.

Let me explain, porn is visual, so no, I don’t write porn.

In my early years, I wrote erotica (rarely now, because I’ve been there, done that).  However, I like to think the love scenes in my books are definitely not fade-to-black.

It’s amazing how many people assume being a lesbian or writing their stories equates to writing erotica or in their ignorant mind’s, porn…do they really think all lesbians are promiscuous?

Last year in Provincetown I was asked what I wrote, as I was deliberately not saying lesbian fiction…my bland answer told around a fire was, “smut.”  It went over very well, we still chuckle at that reply, but who really cares if I do or don’t?

Sometimes I don’t even tell people anything about the lesbian part, I just say fiction…romance, mystery, action-adventure, but mostly drama.  I’m telling about human lives and they just happen to be lesbians.  I’m not ashamed that I write, it simply is not always about the lesbian, it’s about the story.

In fact, with this in mind, I don’t always put the tags on it when I publish it.  I put it out there to the ‘straight’ world, have picked up some great ‘straight’ followers who appreciate a well-written story.  One reviewer wrote on one of my books, it would have been a great story if I just didn’t have the lesbians in it.

I write what I know, from my own perspective.  It isn’t everyone’s view on life.  I’m telling about a marginalized part of our society that needs a voice.  I’m telling their stories.  I hope I give a well-rounded story where lives go on and the viewer, reader, gets to participate….there just happens to be lesbians in the story.

So, on Lesbian Visibility 2019…be out there and visible!

I really enjoyed reading this book. I love a good mystery and the author did a great job creating an intricate plot with a wide range of characters. Just when I had my mind made up about one of the characters, she threw in a plot twist that made me understand her motivation and begin to like her a lot more. There are some interesting moral questions that arise and reading about the different settings where the story takes place kept me very intrigued.

I was honored to read K’Anne Meinel’s Flight in exchange for an honest review.
What can I say? I loved the story. I loved the characters. I especially loved when the heartbreaks turned into wonderful new beginnings. I have just spent the last 8 hours finishing this story. I would reread it in a heartbeat, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good read packed with the love of ‘family’, their dedication to one another… with a lot mystery along the way.
Thank you Ms. Meinel for allowing me to read your work. I enjoyed it.

Another great story from K’Anne Meinel. The characters were well rounded and quite interesting. The plot is very believable and had a few twists that I didn’t see coming. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Just when you think you have a grasp on the storyline, Meinel throws another twist in the fire. Her characters continue to surprise you. Meinel has created a great story with a unique curve and characters that you are drawn to, characters you really dislike with a passion, and others you are ambivalent about. She tackles tough subjects and handles them very well. If you are looking for a book to immerse yourself into, check out Flight. You won’t be disappointed.
